SMCC are very proud to announce that for the second year running the students, staff, governors and parents of year 11 (2017 leavers) have achieved a positive progress 8 headline performance measure for the school. For the second year running this puts SMCC in the top three performing secondary local authority schools in North Devon. Progress 8 counts the students best 8 GCSE or equivalent grades.
The school also achieved higher than the local authority and England average for grade 5 or above in English and maths (grade 5 being the new equivalent of a high grade C / grade B) and higher than local authority and England schools for grade 4 or above in English and maths.
English secured a progress 8 measure of +0.27 (local authority average -0.13 / England average -0.04), this equates to all children in year 11 achieving almost a third of a grade higher on average than expected based on their starting point based on year 6 SATs.
Maths secured a progress 8 measure of +0.23 (local authority average -0.12, England average -0.02), another great success.
Everyone at SMCC is working hard to achieve success and improve life chances for our children and we have more to do, but it is very pleasing to see that we are now consistently achieving very strong results for our local community.
