South Molton’s Show Jumping and Eventing Team have been busy preparing for the upcoming season.
Izzy Beard (Year 11), Vicky Huxtable (Year 11) and Maisie Atkinson (Year 11) recently trained with Kathy Hollick-Blee at Codden Hill Equestrian Centre. In the hour session, the girls worked on preparing for arena eventing with a focus on tight turns, maintaining rhythm and control. Dury, Izzy’s 16hh thoroughbred gelding trained well, confidently jumping oxers and doubles at 90cm-1m. Maisie’s horse, William, a 14.2hh Welsh Section D, was lively but performed well. This was both Vicky and her horse’s, Lavender – a 15.1hh Connemara x thoroughbred, first training clinic. Izzy and Maisie are competing at Codden Hill Equestrian Centre on Sunday 4th December, hoping to qualify for Cricklands.
Keeley Ball (Year 7) recently trained with Andrew Lovell focusing on maintaining a positive contact on the flat and getting the approach right to 2’6” fences.
Molly Matthews (Year 7) is training with Tim Cheffings on Dollar, her 14.2 12 year old horse. Molly has previously won the 80cm championships at Mullacott Equestrian Centre.
Jessica Cummings (Year 8) is training with Yogi Breisner at Pontispool in December. Yogi Breisner was appointed World Class Performance Manager and Chef d’Equipe to the British Eventing team in 2000 and has since led medal winning teams at the 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games in addition to enjoying many successes at both European Championships and World Equestrian Games. Jessica is riding Polly, her 14.2 12 year old horse, who she is hoping to event next season.
We are all really proud of the Show Jumping and Eventing Team for training so hard over winter; it takes real commitment and dedication in these cold and dark months.
We are really looking forward to hearing about their future successes!
