I am writing to provide you with further information that has been released by the Department for Education and Ofqual regarding this Summer’s GCSE grading system and results.
As you may already be aware Ofqual are seeking views on the GCSE grading proposal for 2020. They have now launched a consultation into grading specified general qualifications (including GCSE’s) in 2020. The consultation information is as follows:- Consultation description The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led to the closure of schools and colleges to all except the children of critical workers and vulnerable children, and to the cancellation of exams. In line with government policy we are working to enable students nevertheless to receive qualification grades. Ofqual’s aims are:
- to ensure students can receive grades in these qualifications this summer so they can progress to the next stages of their lives without further disruption
- that the grades will be as valued as those of any other year
- that the approach will be fair.
The consultation will close at 11.45pm Wednesday 29 April.

The education secretary has also now announced that results day will not change from the date that was previously set. The Department for Education have advised that exam results for GCSE’s will be on Thursday 20th August 2020 as agreed at the start of this academic year.
