The Book Club

Year 10 Book Club have finished their first book: ‘The Bone Sparrow’.  The first term’s book was a heart-breaking story of Subhi, a Rohingya refugee born in a detention centre.  The Book Club  students got in contact with the author, Zana Fraillon, via Twitter to ask her some questions – she responded with: Thank you all so much for reading ‘The Bone Sparrow’. I am so delighted that you were all able to engage with it so deeply. I am honoured that you have taken the time to come up with such interesting questions, and I will do my best to answer them just as thoughtfully.  Zana went on to type up 3 pages in response to our students’ questions!

Book Club have chosen their next book: ‘Smart’ and look forward to reading it over Easter (and eating more cake when we meet again!).

Grace on her way to the national qualifiers for the Eventer Challenge and Show Jumping

Grace Sinclair competed at Bicton (in the snow!) on Saturday 17th March in the National Schools Equestrian Association Inter Schools Show Jumping. Grace had a really successful day – all the time she dedicates to training after school and at weekends paid off. Grace claimed first place in the 90cm on her pony, Laddie and first in the 1m class on Dottie and second in the 1.10.  This means that Grace has qualified to represent SMCC and Devon at the championships. Grace is now representing her school at the national qualifiers for the Eventer Challenge and Show Jumping. We’re so proud of Grace.

We will be monitoring the weather this evening and will update the website and Show My Homework and send a message on ParentMail after we have discussed the situation with transport tomorrow morning. The safety of all students and staff is our priority.
