Artwork of the week

This week’s artwork of the week goes to Henry Brewer , D1. Henry is our
first year 7 student to achieve “Artwork of the week” and it is
thoroughly deserved! Henry’s picture started out, I believe, as a doodle
in art club; the image comes entirely from Henry’s imagination (Wow!)
and the only help he required was a close up image of the moon to work
from. Well done Henry, your drawing has been much admired by everyone.

SMCC has the BEST PROGRESS 8 Measure in Devon for a State Maintained School.

Recently the final revision of the 2018 ‘Progress Measures’ were released and SMCC attained a fantastic +0.5. This score placing us in the top 14% of schools in England, (the top category of ‘Well Above Average’) 4th in Devon and top of those schools in the State Maintained Sector in Devon.

This score shows how much progress pupils at this school made between the end of key stage 2 and the end of key stage 4, compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of key stage 2. This is based on results in up to 8 qualifications, which include English, maths, 3 English Baccalaureate qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and 3 other additional approved qualifications.

Artwork of the week

This week, we are really happy to have Annabelle Creighton’s(R4) wonderful portrait of Abi Piper as our “Artwork of the week”. It is rare to capture a likeness, but in this case, Annabelle definitely has! During the GCSE course, Annabelle has really developed her own unique style of drawing, which has proved highly successful. Well done Annabelle, we are really proud of you!

Also, look out for this piece and many other stunning artworks at the forthcoming Burton Art Gallery’s schools  exhibition in March. There will be more information nearer the time. K.Noseda
