The Burton Art Gallery’s annual schools exhibition opened on Saturday 16th March, and runs until April 22nd. It is a fantastic vibrant collection of work from a variety of North Devon schools.
We are really proud of our student’s contribution this year and hope that you are able to visit.
On the 10th March Luana was competing at the South Devon Gymnastics School, with her club the ‘Falcons Academy’. She competed in many disciplines and came 1st on the bars, 1st on the beam, 1st on the vault and 3rd on the floor. Of course that meant FIRST overall for her age category.
Luana tells us she has quite a while until her next competition and will in the meantime be working hard to perfect new skills.
Laura’s beautiful dream-like picture is this week’s artwork of the week. Laura was inspired by Kerby Rosanes, who designs colouring books. The techniques and lovely design was all Laura’s own work; many people have commented on it. I was so impressed when she produced this piece for a homework!!
Well done Laura, you really deserve this.

On Thursday March 7th, Year 11 GCSE artists visited the “Devon Guild of Craftsmen” in Bovey Tracey. The exhibition was “Get Fresh”, which showcased craft and design from talented South West graduates. Year 11 were really productive and used the valuable experience to draw, photograph and observe a variety of artworks, which included: furniture, ceramics, glass and jewellery. The drawings and sketches will form part of their preparatory work for the upcoming GCSE exam this month.
Chloe Brown from Year 10 has recently represented Devon in Rugby Union. So far her and her team mates are unbeaten and have played against Cornwall, Gloucestershire, and Somerset. This is a Fantastic achievement by Chloe and she has been rewarded for her efforts with an SMCC Sports Tie. Well done, Chloe. We are very proud of you.
The work is a personal reflection following a project on Picasso. We looked at a wide range of his work and then how other artists produce self portraits and selfies, looking at how images can be manipulated. Tia has produced a lovely portrait which has been beautifully presented. It shows a real depth and skill using a range of media.
Well done Tia!
