Sunday saw the first 3 teams of this year’s cohort complete their bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition on Exmoor’s ‘wild country’ (Exmoor being 1 of 32 areas in England deemed as ‘raising the bar!’)
Well done to each & every one of them – they had ups & they had downs (some had some more ups & downs) but each & every team completed despite some new fence boundaries being erected that threw in map reading confusion.
A massive thanks to Claire, Kay & Mr Strickland for the organising and to Mr Clooney for camping with us. Also thanks to Mr Lewis and all the parents for helping & supporting this weekend.
Roll on these guys taking on silver & our next cohort of bronze 2019.

Belated congratulations to Lily Cronk who has received her Sports Elite badge as earlier this year she qualified for and competed at Hickstead alongside her fellow SMCC students Fraser, Jess, and Molly.
Lily had a great experience at Hickstead and loved competing at such a high level.
Well done, Lily! We are very proud of you.
Congratulations to Taylor Fisher who received his Sports Tie in recognition of his great achievements in competing nationally in 138cm Pony Racing.
Last week he came in 4th at Ascot and a few weeks ago he won on Maesteg Ruth at Goodwood. https://www.ponyracingauthority.co.uk/race/racecourse-series-4/
Well done, Taylor. We are very proud of you!
Congratulations to over forty students who took part in South Molton’s first MfL Spelling Bee competition, practising their language skills in French and German. Students were asked to spell as many words as possible in one minute.
Winners: Emily yr7 French, Rebecca yr7 German,
yr8 French Joseph, yr8 German Caitlin,
yr9 French Phoebe and yr9 German Carenza.
Last Thursday was the last meeting of Riding Club for this academic year. It was wonderful to see how much progress everyone had made, as we celebrated with a clear round competition. There were very few poles down and great adaptability as riders swapped from one horse or pony to another.
A marvellous set of riders, and we hope to recruit more next year. Many thanks to Catherine at Collacott and to Mrs Smith for her help with taking the register.
Trek Fest – the students taking part were amazing and dug right in, as did the staff that helped – it was an incredible achievement and a really lovely afternoon.
The talented musicians added to the atmosphere, the weather was kind, the cadets dedicated, parents supportive and the whole afternoon/evening had such a lovely feel to it.
Well done everyone.

On Friday 12 July 2019 we held our first Principal’s Tea.
This event was to celebrate the exemplary behaviour of students within new year 9.
Cake and drinks, followed by frisbee and a ‘kick around’ in the sunshine. Mr Jones lost 2 frisbees on the roof and Mrs Allin showed her competitive side.
Thank you to Mrs Hearn who organised the event and to the canteen staff and Mrs Preston who helped with the food preparation.
A really enjoyable afternoon, with many happy faces. We hope to roll a similar event out to other exemplary students in the next year.
