There have been lots of nominations over the last couple of months and some stood out as being extra special.

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER:
Lily nominated by another student “cutting her hair off for charity”
Josh nominated by another student “helping a new student in year 7 settle in socially and in lessons”
Oli nominated by another student “gave away some of his lunch money to someone who didn’t have any.

OCTOBER/ NOVEMBER:
Malakai nominated by another student “helping an lady who had broken her ankle”
Troy and George nominated by the cleaning staff ” being very polite, helpful and cheering up our cleaning staff”
Aaron nominated by another student “helping a new student in year 10 settle in socially and in lessons”

A lovely ethos, from those nominated and those doing the nominating, that underpins the values of SMCC.

Christmas Carol Concert

Please join us for festive carols, mince pies and mulled wine at St Mary Magdalene’s church, South Molton. Free entry. Doors open from 6.45pm for a 7pm start

Student of the week

Lily, Will, Charlie, Josh and Ella.

This nomination has been made by Mr Rogers our music teacher.
This is in recognition of the incredible contribution the band has made towards promoting Music and SMCC in the last few weeks.

They have played multiple gigs and events, including professionally organised gigs outside of school. Some of these events have been very late notice, yet the group were able to conduct themselves in the mature and conscientious manner normally expected of professional musicians.
They have sacrificed countless lunchtimes preparing, and have worked late into the evening many times recently.

We are very proud to have such a fantastic and dedicated group of students representing us. Well done All

Christmas Jumper Day

Organised by our Senior Students.
It is a non-uniform day on Thursday 19th December and we would like you to wear your Christmas jumpers to support 2 great charities. £1 per student (50p for siblings) and all proceeds will be split between SMCC Friends and the Save the Children Christmas Jumper charity.

SMCC Minibus

At the end of November we took delivery of our very own Minibus,  after 5 years of fundraising by the Friends of South Molton Community College.
A total of £18000 has been given to the school by the Friends committee and there have been many events to help achieve this, including the very successful Trekfest, our Strictly Dancing event last Autumn & Mr Potter’s ‘Wheely Long Walk’ last summer.
A Big Big Thank You to Mrs Partridge and Mrs Sauerzapf.
We would also like to thank the South Molton Town Council, The Rotary Club of South Molton and South Molton Scaffolding for their generous support.
As with any expensive item, it takes time to raise the money to ensure that there is financial security and the Friends are very proud that they have manged to achieve this. Our thanks go to all the parents & carers, students past and present and staff who have contributed to the many events to make this purchase possible. Thanks also to ‘Blue Orange Signs’ for the professional sign writing which will help us to advertise our very popular school.

If there are any members of the community who would like to be a part of the Friends committee please contact the school.

Christmas Tree Festival

Team D&T and the Year 8 Enterprise students have been busy over the past month creating this year’s entry for the Church Christmas Tree Festival.

The Tree Festival was held in St Mary Magdalene Church.

Student of the week

Cameron has been selected as the Principal’s Student of the Week. This has been awarded for his dedication to the school’s Poppy Appeal.

In the run-up to Remembrance Day, Cameron willingly gave up every break and lunch time to sell poppies to the students and staff at SMCC on behalf of the Royal British Legion. He did so with a ready smile and a fantastic attitude, even seeking out a particular poppy pin for a staff member when requested. We are extremely proud of his excellent approach to this charitable event.
We raised £240.66

He did all of this with ever present Cameron smile!
