SEPARATE SCIENCES IN
BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS
Examination Board: AQA 8461, 8462 and 8463
Completion of this course will result in three separate GCSEs being awarded
in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Studying three separate sciences provides
for greater flexibility across the three subjects to study at both higher and
foundation levels. All courses consist of 100% examination. The GCSEs are
taught by specialist teachers as separate lessons of Biology, Chemistry and
Physics.
The courses are designed to equip students with the skills and understanding
to help them become scientifically literate citizens. It will also provide a route
of progression to science A levels and other vocational courses like T Levels
or Apprenticeships. The courses will contain a large amount of practical
work, and each GCSE will be assessed by two written exams at the end of
the course, each of 1 hour and 45 minutes duration.
Biology, Chemistry and Physics are good subjects for the majority of STEM
(science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers medicine,
earth science and life sciences. You will find Triple Science is well respected
and essential if you wish to take up: medicine, biomedical sciences,
physiotherapy, sports science, ecologist, botanist, pharmacist, pathologist,
veterinary care.
For a few students, it may be appropriate for them to study GCSE Combined
Science, the content for this is covered within the Separate science courses,
however, as it contains less content, it consequently is only equivalent to
2 GCSEs. This pathway cannot be chosen by students may and will be
considered at the end of year 10 in negotiation with the Head of Science and
the Vice Principal.

Zoologist, Medical Physicist, Doctor, Nurse, Palaeontologist, Astronomer,
Veterinarian, Forensic Scientist, Sports Scientist, Physiotherapist, Midwife.
