David Hockney (1937- to present) is a
British artist, print maker, photographer
and stage designer. His artwork
collection is vast, and he exhibits all
over the world still working in his
80's. He uses vibrant colours and has a
very distinctive and simplistic way of
working. Despite his talent and huge
success, he has refused a knighthood
stating “I don’t value prizes of any sort. I
value my friends.”
Chinese Art goes back centuries and
encompasses painting, collagraphy, architecture,
pottery, jade, bronze, textiles and printing. It is
known for its rich symbolism for example;
dragons, koi fish, clouds, water, birds, flowers and
Chinese characters. Each one represents deeper
meanings and cultural significance. Colours also
convey messages and emotions linked to
Chinese beliefs and traditions. Red- fire, Yellow-
earth, Black- water, White- metal and Blue- wood.
