The EBacc is seen as the highest standard of academic
accomplishment that students can achieve at the age of 16.
At SMCC, we encourage every student to aspire to the EBacc;
and for those students that are currently working towards a
projected grade 5 in French, the EBacc will be compulsory. We will
inform you if this is the case for you.

Every student, regardless of whether you are entering the EBacc,
will study the following compulsory GCSE subjects:
• English Language
• English Literature
• Mathematics
• Sciences – GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics.

Other subjects that are non-examined but also compulsory are:
• Physical Education (PE)
• Religious Education (RE)
• Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education (PSCHE)

All students will be placed into either a blue or yellow pathway
and will study 9 subjects in total:

BLUE PATHWAY

Blue pathway students have been asked to follow the EBacc, you
must choose:
English English
Language Literature Mathematics
• French
• Geography or History (you can study both if you wish)
• One further option from those provided (if you wish to choose
Biology
Compulsory GCSEs two of either Geography, History or Computer Science, this will
leave you no other remaining option)
