               Why study this subject?

               Students who opt for GCSE PE should have a keen interest and ability in
               physical activity and sport. This interest may have come through positive
               experiences in years 7-9 in their PE lessons,
               and/or from their own experiences of participating in sports
               outside of school.

               30% of the course is attributed to participation in three sporting activities.
               This is a real motivator for students who already play lots of sport as they
               can attain part of their GCSE grade by playing the sports they love. However,
               if you are committed to your PE lessons in school, willing to join a new
               extra-curricular club, and most importantly, interested in learning about the
               body and mind, then you can still attain well in GCSE PE. Within GCSE PE,
               students will develop an understanding of the technical and scientific sides
               of physical activity and sport.
               What skills will I develop?


               The subject allows students to develop their knowledge of body systems,
               movement analysis, fitness testing and training, health and wellbeing,
               sport psychology and socio-cultural influences. They develop their ability
               to evaluate and analyse physical performance to improve their own skills,
               tactics and fitness through participation.
               What will I study?

               •   Applied anatomy and physiology
               •   Movement analysis
               •   Physical training
               •   Health, fitness and well-being
               •   Sport psychology
               •   Socio-cultural influences
               •   Use of data to plan a training programme
               •   Practical performance
