BUSINESS STUDIES
Examination Board: EDEXCEL
Business Studies is a subject that gives pupils the opportunity to develop
a wide range of transferable skills. Pupils will become skilled in making
decisions, being creative, solving problems, understanding finance, analysing
data and working as part of a team. They will not only gain business
knowledge and understanding but will gain the opportunity to put it into
practise through a range of business activities and projects. Business Studies
gives pupils the opportunity to understand the world that we live in and to
become more aware of global issues and events.
We learn how they grow their businesses, employ staff, and manage finances.
We analyse what forms the foundation of ‘Meal Deals’, half price offers and
loyalty cards. We role-play job interviews and watch popular business reality
shows. And who knows, perhaps some future millionaires are making their
first steps towards success in our classrooms. The subject shows your ability
to interpret information including data, communicate ideas, understand
the world around you and make big decisions. At SMCC we study Edexcel
Business. You are assessed in your understanding of how different types of
business operate in their contexts and how to build your own business. This
is currently assessed through 2 written exam papers at the end of Year 11.
What is involved in the Business course?
The course is split into two themes:
Investigating small business: You will be introduced to local and national
business environments and will develop an understanding of how these
environments impact business behaviour and decisions.
Building a business: You will develop an understanding of the
interdependent nature of business activity as well as the relationship
between the business and the environment in which it operates.
How will you be assessed?
The course requires you to sit two exam papers.
Paper 1 relates to the content of the investigating small business.
Paper 2 relates to the content of building a business. Each paper may also
draw some knowledge of the other theme
