Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the school is offering a restricted catering service at the moment, comprising of lunch only.
As breakfast and break services are currently paused, we recommend that your child brings in something for those times too, if needed. They should also have a water bottle brought in, full, at the start of the day, which can be refilled as necessary during the school day.
Lunch is served over a 30 minute period per year group sitting, there is a good choice with four hatches open. These consist of hot food with traditional meals served, sandwiches, hot wraps, paninis, baguettes, rolls, cakes, fresh fruit and salad with jacket potatoes available daily. We also serve Pasta King Pasta Pots available with different sauces to choose from.
All our disposable pots and cartons are made from biodegradable materials.

At SMCC, we have set termly menus that are rotated on the 4-weekly basis as well as regular daily items such as jacket potatoes, pasta, sandwiches, fruit pots, and yoghurts. You could read through this with your child and get to know the prices of these items which will no doubt help you and your child keep within their limits.
Daily Spend Limits
The school operates a cashless system reducing the problems of cash in the school and encouraging healthy eating. Payment can be made online via The School Gateway
If you would like to set a specific daily limit for your child, please inform the payments office by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have already recently requested an increase or decrease, thank you for doing so and therefore ignore this request.
Free School Meals
The free school meal daily allowance is £2.30.
If your child is in receipt of free school meals and you would like them to have a little extra, payment can be added via the School Gateway App. Other means of payment are available by enquiring with the schools' Payments Office.
Free School Meals – Are you Eligible
If your child is NOT currently in receipt of free school meals and you ARE in receipt of ONE OR MORE of the following benefits, you should apply through the Devon Citizens Portal.
This is the quickest and easiest way to apply and will result in you getting an instant decision. Alternatively, call the Education Helpline on:
School Meals Debt
As the Local Authority is no longer accountable for the administration of dinner money debt the responsibility now falls on the school to pursue instances of non-payment. As a result, the school budget will have to directly fund any outstanding debts that cannot be recovered thereby directly affecting the amount of money that is available to provide education to all pupils.
Here at SMCC, we would like parents to inform us if there is any financial difficulty in providing your child(ren) with a meal so that we can provide advice/assistance where necessary and potentially help you to get the right support where possible. We would not want to see any child go without food.
Parents who meet certain criteria may qualify for Free School Meals. Free School Meals are a statutory right and it is important that all parents/carers who qualify take up their child’s entitlement so that they can receive a school meal each day.
Payment for School Meals
As a school, we wish to avoid a situation which allows parents/carers to accrue large amounts of debt for school meals, which can then be difficult to clear. Payment for school meals can be made in advance using the online payment system ‘School Gateway’. When logged into this, you can easily see the balance on account as well as items purchased in the school canteen.
Parents/carers will receive an automated message when funds need to be replenished to ensure your child has enough credit on account.
Parents/carers should contact the school if there is a genuine reason why they are unable to pay.
